I arrived in Portland from back east on Valentine's Day. It was warm. It was sunny. It was love at first sight. There was a state park every few miles. I vowed to explore them all. When I arrived at Mary S Young, I found it blanketed with Trillium. I knew these flowers from my native Wisconsin, but they were a rarity. I called my mom, "You won't believe it!" I called my husband, "We're moving to Portland!" A few months later, we had jobs, a home base from which to explore, and mentors to help me develop my love of ceramics.
Even in a gray Portland winter, these trillium boxes bring me back to that first sunshine of spring, especially when clustered together. With this pot I'm introducing more vibrant glaze colors that match the lush Northwest forest.
Flower is hand formed, pot is wheel thrown of stoneware clay and glazed. Result is a food-safe dish that you could use for salt, candies, or garlic cloves.
This listing is for the medium sized pot. Pot is 2 1/2" to 3" in diameter, and about 2" high. Since each flower is handmade, petals vary slightly in shape and color. The first picture shows the best representation of this new color.
